Human capital: a key performance asset 5/5

by Apr 2, 2020Competency Based Management (CBM), Knowledge Base

In this final instalment of our saga, we take a closer look at the challenges, MPC focus and sources of performance of the fourth function of an MPC focused on Human Assets: the transmission function.
The challenges of the transmission function

The question here is how to encourage the transmission of the organization’s collective assets to all employees, the aim being to enrich individual assets and develop synergies:

  • Do we make it easier to take up a new position when recruiting or moving internally?
  • Is the organization’s project (strategy, values, objectives) communicated and understood by employees?
  • Is there a regular exchange between management and the field?
  • Do teams share best practices? Is a post-mortem systematically carried out at the end of projects?
  • Are executives’ and managers’ behaviors in line with the company’s values/culture?
  • Does the organization develop its employees’ sense of belonging?
The associated MPC focus
  • Diversity management ;
  • Tutoring / mentoring ;
  • Integration of trainees and apprentices ;
  • Managing departures and returns from long-term absences ;
  • Satisfaction survey/audit and associated improvement plan.
Sources of performance

From the point of view of this transmission function, performance refers to notions of power and distance.

It is imperative to move away from a logic of power struggles and mistrust towards one of co-construction. In addition, moving away from emergency situations will make it easier to take the human factor fully into account, which means making a clearer distinction between expenses and investments.

It’s easy to understand why Human Capital is the cornerstone of organizational performance, or to put it another way, “the missing link in the debate on competitiveness” (see Yves Barou’s book).

Every year, the Boston Consulting Group reminds us in its survey entitled “Creating the People Advantage” that human capital management must be a priority for all organizations.

If you’d like to assess your MPC maturity level and deploy innovative tools and approaches in this area, the SKP team will be happy to support you!
