Do you find studying a mountain of CVs tedious work? Are you looking for a way to recruit efficient employees who will fit in perfectly with your company? As a recent IBM study shows, it’s in your interest to switch to “assessment” mode!

CVs and unstructured interviews: limited tools

Simon Gluyas, senior consultant at IBM, is categorical: traditional recruitment methods are no longer adapted to the needs of today’s large companies.
Of course, the CV is still useful: it can be used to determine a level of qualification or a degree of experience in relation to a given position. However, it doesn’t teach us anything concrete about the way a person behaves in a professional situation, any more than does a traditional face-to-face interview, which tends to give an erroneous view of the interviewee.
If you proceed in this way, you run the risk of selecting candidates whose skills will ultimately prove disappointing, or, on the contrary, of overlooking talented individuals who will have been disadvantaged by an unattractive presentation.

The assessment center: the guarantee of reliable, high-performance recruitment

Filling a position with a high level of responsibility requires objective information on the qualities of the selected applicants. How would you like to try out a method that is still innovative in Europe, but which has already proved its worth on the other side of the Atlantic?
The innovative aspect of assessment techniques is that they enable us to measure precisely the degree of fit between a candidate’s behavioral abilities and what is expected of him or her in a future position. It’s a process based not only on the study of behaviors to adopt and skills to deploy in a company, but also on the culture of the company in question, which is a particularly important element in the development of assessment tests (psychometric tools and situation scenarios). A candidate may perform extremely well in one company, but be very different in another.
The use of assessment centers increases the efficiency of recruitment and, by a rebound effect, leads to a significant increase in productivity and a reduction in staff turnover.
