Posture alignment goes beyond functions. Here, the HR department in Europe wants to spread the posture of business partner. Whatever their position, team members should have an understanding of the needs of the business they support. The alignment program based on the Skillspot methodology and solution helped to identify the strengths of the collective and the development needed to achieve the objective.
From HR Department to Business Partner: Aligning the European HR team
- Sector: industry
- Region: Europe
- Mission: Analysis of skills gaps in relation to a “Business Partner” posture, to help the HR Europe team evolve from an HR Service posture to a partner posture.
- Implementation: 8 weeks
- Key benefits: A clear and precise vision of the training to be implemented (for the team and for each team member), while respecting the skills already present in certain members and limited availability – avoiding giving full training to people who only need to develop one or two skills on a subject.
The challenge
The company, which operates in the automotive automation sector, has several departments: R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and, of course, Finance, Legal and Engineering. The HR team has to interact with stakeholders from different backgrounds and professions, with widely varying needs and expectations. The team’s alignment must enable it to better understand and respond to all these needs, while safeguarding the interests of the organization, the sectors concerned, the HR team and the individuals.
Above all, we need to align the key competencies underlying this understanding of business.
The result
In less than 2 months, together with HR Europe management and 2 Business Partners, we drew up a profile of the key relational and personal skills needed to develop this understanding of business (problem-solving, stakeholder management, emotional management, communications, operational management, etc.). We then invited all members of the HR Europe team to take a self-assessment on the selected competencies. The results of the gap analysis were presented to the team and to management, who were able to draw up an optimal training plan, taking into account the differences in skills between individuals and focusing on key development needs.
